What do thin, medium and heavy mean?
It describes the weight or thickness of the cymbal. Thin cymbals respond faster and sound softer and shorter. Heavy cymbals are louder, with more attack and a longer sustain. Medium sits in between and is the most versatile all-rounder.
Set or single cymbals?
A set is the most affordable way in: hi-hat, crash and ride are matched in sound. Single cymbals make sense when you want to expand your setup or swap specific cymbals – for example a second crash or a china for accents.
What is CuSn8 bronze?
CuSn8 is a bronze made of about 92% copper and 8% tin. Paiste also uses this alloy for its well-known 2002 series. It stands for a bright, clear and cutting sound.
What are crash, ride, hi-hat, china and splash for?
- Hi-hat: keeps time in the groove, opened and closed with your foot.
- Ride: for steady patterns, with a clear bell in the centre.
- Crash: for accents, transitions and climaxes.
- China: trashy and aggressive – an effect with character.
- Splash: small, fast and bright for short accents.
