Rakataks are very similar in shape to maracas. But unlike the African vessel rattles, the Rakataks are open at the top. There is a slot in the tube-like body of the Rakataks that contributes to the development of the sound. There is a movable clapper in the sound tube that strikes on both sides when the instrument is moved, producing the characteristic sound of the Rakataks, which is reminiscent of the trampling of horses.
The most important features at a glance:
- Material: Beech
- Treatment: waxed
- Color: colorful
- Length: 185 mm / 7,289′
- Diameter: 35 mm / 1,379
Depending on the diameter of the sound tube, brighter or deeper tones are produced when struck. These can be recognized in the Rohema - Rakatak range by the color of the mallet: yellow sounds the highest, brown the lowest.
The instrument set with all five Rakataks invites you to use it in a variety of ways thanks to its easy handling.
