The Rakatak is a rhythm instrument with a hollow sound body that is open at the top and has a slot that contributes to the development of the sound. A movable clapper is inserted through this sound body, which hits both sides of the hollow body as the instrument moves. This creates an accurate and accentuated sound. The sound is reminiscent of the clatter of a rattlesnake or the patter of a horse. For example, the Rakatak can be used to accompany knee rider verses or accompany sound stories.
