The wood block drum is one of the slit drums that have their origins in Asian and Latin American music. The cuboid block made of beech wood is held in the hand and played with a mallet. Depending on which side is struck, a brighter or darker tone will be heard.
The Woodblock has a very clear and percussive sound. No special cognitive or motor skills are required to play the block drum. It is therefore suitable for use across all ages in all types of musical courses. Even the little ones can get great rhythms out of the Woodblock. Regardless of whether you are a beginner or an advanced player - the drum invites you to try things out and improvise.
